A Splendid Chinese Culture And Art Feast – A Lecture Given By The Director Of The Asian Art Museum, National Museums In Berlin

In the morning of 23rd of May, students and teachers coming to attend the lecture given by the curator of the Asian Art Museum filled the conference room of the Fine Art School of GZMU.

Prof. Klaas Ruitenbeek currently works in Asian Art School of Freie Universität Berlin, and is also as the curator of the Asian Art Museum, National Museums in Berlin. He is one of the world-renowned experts in Chinese art history, and one of many famous Humboldt fellows. He had a magnificent resume to represent to all: as the curator of East Asian Art at the Rijks museum, Amsterdam, The Netherlands in 1985 to 1994; as the professor of Chinese Art and Archaeology at the University of Munich, Germany in 1994 to 1996; and as Louise Hawley Stone Chair of Far Eastern Art at the Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto, Canada in 1996-2009. Today the lecture he brought to all students and faculties was “The Presentation of Chinese Art And Culture in the Humboldt Forum, Berlin”.

Prof. Klaas Ruitenbeek studied ancient architecture in Peking University during 1990s. He was proficient in Germany, English, Chinese, and French. His lecture began with an introduction of his visit to Guizhou Provincial Museum. He strongly recommended the Museum for its delicate collections of Ethnical Exhibits.

 

During his career, Prof. Klaas Ruitenbeek has paid visits to almost every museums of the world and took part in the development of planning exhibitions.

Prof. Klaas Ruitenbeek firstly introduced Humboldt Forum, then went to the stories and experiences of European Artists pursuing their dream arts, demonstrated the rare collections of the Asian Art Museum, National Museums in Berlin, and represented Berlin's Museumsinsel.

the Asian Art Museum, National Museums in Berlin was one of the greatest Asian art museums of Europe, containing a great deal of collections of the cultural relics of China's silk road. “The Museum has been closed for re-organization of collections in 2017. And all collections will be transferred together with collections items from Berlin Museum of Anthropology to Humboldt Forum, Berlin.” He said, “It will be re-open in 2019 and we welcome you all to pay a visit to it.”

 

The lecture is held by Fan Zhaoping, who’s the Deputy Dean of the School of Fine Art. And the lecture ended in vociferous applause to Prof. Klaas Ruitenbeek.
