April 13-15 (or 14-16) is the traditional New Year of Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Myanmar every year. In order to make international students feel the warmth of home, School of International Education ofGZMU held a Water-splashingactivity to celebrate the New Year on April 15, 2023. Teachers and students of the School of International Education and the ASEANCollege of Humanities celebrated the festival together.
The event started at 11 am with the BACI ceremony, which is a special blessing ceremony in Laosand other ASEAN countriesto wish family and friends peace and prosperity. The teachers and students tied the strings symbolizing blessings to each other's wrists to bless each other.
At the end of the tying ceremony, there was a celebration of splashing water and singing and dancing games. Splashing water was a blessing. Through fun games andwater-splashing praying activities,these students enhanced the feelings between each other and increased the collective cohesion.
International students are the disseminators and communicators of international culture. This activity has enriched the cultural life of international students , enhanced the friendship between Chinese andinternational students, and promoted the cultural exchanges between China and ASEAN countries.
